The Taylor House was founded by Lisa Peat in January of 2012. Lisa had been a volunteer at Child Advocates of Placer County (CASA), where she advocated in court for foster youth. Lisa has always had an overwhelming concern for the young women who are often feel lost during their emancipation out of the system at age 18. Unfortunately, many do not yet possess the skills to successfully navigate through adult milestones.

Out of those concerns, in 2011, she purchased a rundown, foreclosed six-bedroom property in downtown Roseville to create a safe place for these young women who have aged out of the foster system or are at-risk youth experiencing homelessness. The Taylor House embodies all the things that Lisa and CASA have worked so hard to accomplish which are providing young women with responsible, caring role models and also creating a safe space where they can learn life skills, continue their education, build healthy relationships, and thrive.

The house is fully furnished and includes cable, internet, central heat and air, and a kitchen that is fully stocked with everything residents need to prepare meals. All of the bedrooms are furnished with a full- size bed, dresser, night stand, reading chair, mirror, curtains and desk. In 2020, a two-bedroom additional unit was built. Residents must first complete building their foundation in the main house and then can graduate into The College Apartment, where they can continue to live while completing their education.

Residents at The Taylor House pay rent, put down a security deposit, pay for utilities and buy their own food. The Resident Assistance Fund supports residents who come to the house with no funds and few personal belongings in the beginning to have access to food, clothing, toiletries, and a graduated rent subsidy. Residents must meet with the Program Manager weekly to ensure they are on track to further their individual goals.

Referrals come from many sources which include social workers, community partners, Sierra College, probation officers, foster families, CASA, high schools, Compassion Planet, and Pride Industries.
